Growing up Carla had been a slim, attractive teenager who loved life and lived it up to the full. When she became pregnant with her son she settled down to family life with her new baby and partner of five years.
However, when her new baby was six months old her partner left her.
It was completely out of the blue. His parting words were: “You are fat, ugly and useless and how could anyone ever love you.”
Completely broken, Carla believed his cruel words and became almost a recluse, afraid to go out with family and friends. On the rare occasions that she did, she convinced herself people were talking about her and laughing at the way she looked.
She said: “It was pretty crazy really. I wouldn’t go out because I was embarrassed about how I looked so I stayed in eating and drinking. I put on about three stone through pregnancy and then a further four stone when my partner left”.
Finally after much cajoling, her friends managed to convince her to go out for her birthday and Carla reluctantly agreed, squeezing into her size 20 outfit - long gone were the days of her sexy petite size eights.
A couple of days after the party Carla received an anonymous email. It said – and this is an exact quote - : “What happened to you? You were so slim and pretty at school and now you appear to have turned in to a big, fat, ugly pig’!
Carla said: “I realised they had seen my birthday photos on Facebook. I was very, very upset and it seemed to confirm what my ex-partner had said.
However this time I was determined to do something positive because I was so fed up, so rather than slink home and back to my reclusive ways I decided that this was the moment to seriously commit to losing the weight. I looked on the internet and found out about the Cambridge Weight Plan and the rest, as they say, is history”.
After meeting up with her Consultant, Carla found the Diet easier than expected. She is now at her target of fitting into a snug size 10 dress. She said: “Losing so much weight early on really made a difference. It gave me the hope that this time I could do it – and I have.
I am ME again. Losing the weight had such a profound impact on my self-esteem that I have even got a new job after gaining the confidence to go for interviews. My days of hiding at home are well and truly over for good."
